Frequently Asked Questions

I'm still a bit confused about larp and Immersive theatre. What should I expect this experience to be like?

Like going to a murder mystery party, except you're not trying to solve a murder. Like playing Dungeons and Dragons, except instead of rolling dice you physically act out everything you do. Like going to Disneyland if the costumed characters had complex interpersonal drama and you had history with them all.

I'm terrified of audience interaction. Will you put me on the spot?

No! Although Farrago Bazaar is highly interactive, the actors will never force you to do anything you don't want to do. If you prefer to spend the whole event silently eavesdropping instead of interacting with actors or other audience members, you'll still have a very entertaining experience (and might even witness some story moments that louder audience members miss out on!).

How long is Farrago Bazaar?

Two hours.

Tell me about the ‘feast’.

There is a feast served halfway through the show. It's prepared by our production chef, James Ladanyi, and is served buffet style with clearly marked vegan and gluten free options. The ‘wine’ is a non-alcoholic alternative.

What should I wear?

We encourage audience members to wear clothing that they feel suits our post-post-apocalyptic, solarpunk vibe. Please take a look at the Zan, Jayer and Tolvil tribe pages to get a sense of the aesthetic for your chosen character. However, we will have some costume items available at the event to help you get into character. On a practical level, the event will be taking place mostly outside and you will be standing for long periods of time. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the late spring weather.

How accessible is the venue?

There is a step up into the Innermost Gardens hall – if you are a wheelchair user, please inform us when purchasing your ticket so that we can help with this. The majority of the show will take place outside the hall, in the garden. The garden has a mixture of paved and gravel paths with grass lawn areas. Although the show as a whole is not seated, some chairs will be available throughout the event for you to rest your legs.

I really don’t want to play a character. Can I just buy a ticket and watch the show?

Taking on a character role is an essential part of the Farrago Bazaar experience. We feel that it would be unfair to the people who are playing characters to have other people standing around and watching them without joining in, as we don’t want them to feel self-conscious. However, you do not need to be a great actor to participate! All you need to do is remember your name and your tribe, and do your very best to stay in character.
